TETSURO SHIMAGUCHI
FOUNDER, MASTER, LEADER OF KAMUI | Date of Birth: 5/13/1970
Tetsuro Shimaguchi was born in Saitama prefecture, Japan, and graduated from Nihon University College of Arts. After gaining several years of experience in theater activities, such as kabuki, he established a samurai sword performance group ,”Kengishu KAMUI”, of which he has been serving as a leader. He is a “Samurai Artist” pursuing a style of beauty of form, acting, and martial arts mixed together.
One of his major accomplishments as an actor was performing as Crazy 88’s “MIKI”, as well as directing the choreography in “KILL BILL Vol. 1” a film by Quentin Tarantino.
After the success of KILL BILL, KAMUI has been putting on highly acclaimed performances around the world. They performed in high-profile venues, such as Kennedy Center in the U.S. (2005), Teatro Della Pergola and Palazzo Vecchio in Italy (2010), Blue Note in Poland and many other venues in Europe, Hermitage Museum in Russia (2015), Armani Hotel in Dubai (2016), etc.
In 2012, he established his original samurai dojo, “KENGIDO” and he’s been expanding it not only in Japan, but also in many other countries including Italy, Czech Republic, UK, the U.S. and Republic of Lithuania. This demonstrates how he has been putting his heart and soul to promote Samurai culture both inside and outside of Japan.
He is the first Japanese artist to receive the Consonanze award in Florence, Italy in October 2018. In October 2019, he was appointed as a tourism ambassador for Aizuwakamatsu City and Fukushima Prefecture.
HIROMI MATSUMURA
ASSISTANT INSTRUCTOR
She became an apprentice with "Kengishu KAMUI" (SAMURAI ARTIST) in 2008 and became an official member in 2012. She has performed both in Japan and abroad in venues like Teatre della Pergola in Italy, Hermitage Museum in Russia, Armani Hotel in Dubai etc.
In 2012, she became a disciple of KENGIDO which was established by the leader of Kengishu KAMUI, Tetsuro Shimaguchi. She choreographs and teaches pupils at the Dojo in Japan and UK.
She is an official assistant instructor for Tetsuro Shimaguchi and the main Sensei for the UK school. She is the very first female SAMURAI ARTIST and has been expanding her activities as a leader.

JON FRASER
Kengido UK Captain & Student / Filmmaker
His martial arts background comes primarily from Shaolin Kung Fu, having trained in both Northen and Southern styles for several years. He also trained Taekwondo, Wing Chun and Kick Boxing for a brief period of time.
He started training Kengido in 2021 and has had the privilege of helping Sensei Tetsuro bring his art form into the UK, by helping to organize workshops and now running Kengido UK.

An avid martial arts practitioner and student of Jeet Kune Do, Taekwondo, Brazilian and Japanese Jiujitsu. On a journey of self discovery by honestly expressing one’s self through self actualisation and achieving one’s authentic higher truth. A passion for ‘the way of the samurai’ lead to start training Kengido in 2022, resulting in becoming the co-founder of Kengido UK which opened its doors to students in February 2023.

BARTY SHEPHERD

Barty started martial arts over 10 years ago, initially training in Shaolin Kung Fu in China, before moving on to Taekwondo, Muay Thai and Kenjutsu.
He uses martial arts for his work so when he started training in Kengido in 2021, he loved Sensei Tetsuro’s approach and art form and wanted to help him spread and grow Kengido in the UK.
